Kruger Products was recently honoured as a finalist in the Fighting Climate Change Category at Les Phénix de l’environnement awards gala held in Québec City on May 24.

The innovative heat recovery technology at Kruger Products’ mill in Gatineau, in the Outaouais region, was showcased during this annual competition held in partnership with several ministries, Éco Entreprises Québec and the Québec Environment Foundation.

The Gatineau Mill was recognized for its innovative heat recovery system that captures hot, humid air from two of the mill’s three paper machines and reuses it to heat process water, as well as the facility itself during the winter.

The technology lowers the mill’s total annual energy consumption by 11% and CO2 emissions by 14.5% (10,000 tonnes per year), a reduction equivalent to removing 2,500 cars from the road or planting 1.3 million trees.
